Originally built as a working ranch, the Lazy H was converted to a destination resort ranch in the early 1950's. Know at this time as the Lazy H Sky Ranch, the private membership resort was one of the county's most popular gathering spots for local celebrities. During the 1950's the Lazy H offered a landing field for small planes, a club house, large pool, the nearby Rincon Springs Restaurant as well as many of the popular pastimes of the era such as shuffleboard, paddle tennis, badminton, a "championship croquet court" and horseback riding.
Over the years, the Lazy H has been featured in numerous publications including Sunset Magazine, the Evening Tribune, The San Diego Union, The Los Angeles Examiner, The San Francisco Examiner, the Daily Times Advocate, and San Diego Magazine.
In 1951, Neil Morgan wrote in his column that he found his trip to the Lazy H to be a "shortcut to Shangri-La...from the moment you drive to the entrance (or fly up to it) you catch the feeling of complete relaxation, informality and friendliness. First of all, the effect of the sheer color and beauty of the landscaping is relaxing and refreshing. You get the impression that it is just right." Although the landing field is no longer here, much of the Lazy H remains unchanged (save some new paint, carpet and a few modern conveniences).
The Lazy H is family owned and operated by Jack and Sherri Hall of Valley Center, along with his daughters Heather and Laury. Our family has a passion for making people feel right at home. Many locals also hold the Lazy H close to their hearts, having learned how to swim in the pool, scoured the lawns for Easter eggs and enjoyed many a good meal with family & friends.
